Do You Have Large Items To Wash? Head To The Laundromat

Posted on: 13 March 2020

Most homeowners who have access to their own washing machine and clothes dryer don't think about going to a coin-operated laundromat. If you haven't been utilizing a coin laundry for your large and bulky items, you could be missing out on the most efficient and convenient clean possible.

The larger machines in a laundromat are equipped with drums that are capable of handling the bulkiest comforter or sleeping bag. You will need to change your laundry routine slightly to ensure your experience laundering large items in the laundromat is a positive one.

 Load Bulky Items Evenly

It's important that you load your bulky items into the washer and dryer at the laundromat evenly. This will help to prevent any interference with the rotation of the drums inside the machines as your items are being laundered.

It can be helpful to remove a comforter or sleeping bag from the dryer at regular intervals to adjust the positioning so that all areas get completely dry. As long as you load your bulky items evenly and ensure that they stay evenly distributed throughout the wash and dry cycles, you can easily clean your large items at the laundromat.

Use Less Soap

The type of detergent that you use can have an impact on the efficiency of the washing process when it comes to bulky items. Once you have evenly loaded your large item into the washing machine at a laundromat, you will want to use a mild detergent to wash the item.

Mild detergents don't create as many suds as regular detergents do. Use less soap than recommended to further reduce suds. You don't want the water to become too soapy when you are washing a bulky item, or you may find that the item doesn't fully rinse at the end of the wash cycle.

Add Tennis Balls to the Dryer

The clothes dryers at a laundromat are large enough to accommodate a bulky comforter or sleeping bag with ease. You should always toss a few tennis balls into the dryer to help fluff your large items as they dry.

Avoid using a high-heat setting, as the dryers at a laundromat can get hotter than your dryer at home. Extreme heat could cause dryer burn and melt the rubber of the tennis balls.

A few drops of your favorite essential oils applied to each tennis ball before drying will help your bulky items come out fluffy, dry, and smelling fabulous.
