Different Options For Child Care Centers

Posted on: 21 February 2020

If you and your partner both have to work outside the home, and you have young children, you are going to need to find child care to take care the the children. Some people like to find a person to come to their home for this, but it is not always possible. In addition, your children will be missing out on the social skills and academics they learn at a child care center. Of course, not all child care facilities offer the same things. It is up to you as to what you want and expect from your child care provider. Here are a few different options.

General Child Care

Some facilities are basically babysitters. There will be other children there for yours to interact with to learn social skills. In addition, the provider will often have different games and fun activities throughout the day to keep everyone entertained. Many of these facilities keep all but infants in the same area. Your one-year-old will be able to hang out with and play with their older siblings, if they are also taken care of at the facility. Your child will be allowed to bring a toy or game from home, and will probably have to take a nap at some point during the day. These centers are often the only ones open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Preschool Child Care

If you are looking for a facility that will get your child started academically, you should look into one that offers preschool curriculum during the day. They will separate infants, toddlers, and those getting ready to enter kindergarten. The kids will have free time to play with each other, but the majority of the time will be structured with some type of learning curriculum. You will need to discuss with the different teachers what type of learning takes place. Some child care centers teach colors, shapes, and get started on letters and numbers. Others are a bit more advanced and will have your preschooler reading small words and stories as well as learning number concepts and may begin addition and subtraction problems.

You know your children and what would be best for them. If you have always been at home with them and are now deciding to go back to work, you may want to start with a general child care center until your children are used to you not being there. You could then progress to a preschool facility before you child has to go to kindergarten to get them used to a learning atmosphere.
