4 Production Steps You Need To Go Through When Making A Movie

Posted on: 27 December 2019

If you've always wanted to make your own movie, you know that you are in for a lot of work in order to get your film made. There are several stages of film production, and even if you are going to do it all yourself, you are still going to need to go through all those steps.

Development

The development stage is when you are going to do all the work to get the film started. Development includes things like coming up with the idea, writing, editing, rewriting the script, finding the location to shoot your film, and doing all the other groundwork. This step could take weeks, months, or years, depending on whether or not you are doing it all yourself, you agree with partners, or other similar issues. If you were to work with a studio, this is when you would take it to a studio to see if they like it.

Preproduction

This step is when you do all the casting, hiring of your crew, finalizing locations for shooting, and dealing with your shooting schedule. This is also the time when you are going to work on getting all the funding you need. Doing it yourself means that you may be asking banks for loans, seeing if you can get some product placement deals, and talking to friends and family to see if they possibly want to help invest in your movie.

Production

Production may be the actual shortest part of the entire process. This is the time when you are actually making the movie. You have all your actors and crew working on the film, heading to the various locations, and so forth. How long this step lasts depends on how much you have to shoot and if you are shooting around real-life schedules.

Postproduction

This is when you are going to do all the editing, sound work, special effects, and similar work. For large-budget studio films this can take up to a year, but for your independent film, it might not take that long because you don't have the resources to add in all the complicated stuff that the larger studios do. That doesn't mean that you can't add in some of it.

If you have always wanted to make your own movie, you need to make sure that you know what is in store for you. Call a film production team to get help.
